How It All Started

• Well over two decades ago I was working as a Land Surveyor within the army. At the time everything was carried out using calculators, pen and paper.
• Practically over night with the Gulf War everything went digital. With this change we found that all of a sudden larger and larger volumes of data were being stored and distributed using computers.
• Due to specific courses i had been doing via the Open University I was selected to become an Oracle DBA and run the army's first terabyte server deploying mapping and satellite imagery from anywhere and everywhere securely to military teams in commands and on the ground.
• Due to the huge demands of the amount of UK involvement around the world I had to become very fast very quickly.
• In 1995 the government started the first of a large series of cut backs that all of a sudden made the military something you could not depend on for a stable career.
• Overnight I started creating web sites for the military for military sports.
• This then progressed though a series of events into creating web sites for business. I found it easy as all civilian companies worked at a much slower pace and had huge superfluous overheads they needed to cover like large plush premises and staff not involved in the actual creation of the web site.
• As I progressed I could recruit the best and bring them into the team from courses I went on in networking and systems administration.

• In the military we are used to working at a phenomenal pace beating impossible time lines getting called out at all hours.

Funnily enough our approach is best summed up by a car purchase I made recently from a company run by ex military. I recently bought a new Peugeot 5008, an amazing car.
