• Always avoid templates they generate lots of superfluous code by the nature of how they are put together.
• Many website design companies these days use menu generation tools that generate javascript menus. Beware Google does not follow javascript links.
• A BIG ONE TO WATCH OUT FOR - Do you have any pages that are not top level? This page's URL is:
www.webdesignnewbury.co.uk/websiteconstruction.php
Note the one forward slash before the page itself.
If the url was
www.webdesignnewbury.co.uk/webdesign/websiteconstruction.php
Then the page
websiteconstruction.php will be buried one level below the home page and Google will see it as less important to you. if it was important then it would be directly linked to.
• For your products in the URL address are they listed/found by something like productid=6 and productid=27. The page name is very important and if this is all that immediately identifies the page/product you will be giving Google nothing to work with right from the beginning.
• Do you have anything meaningless to what you do in any of your URL's? Check your pages and if you can read anything in the address bar that has nothing to do with what you sell then your designer is missing the most basic rules and will most definately be missing the more important details.
